Our Story

In 2005, Heidi Bock (Kvasnak) started her yoga teaching career by opening “Satya Yoga”. Her first classes were taught in Shelburne Village at the “Awakening Center” and as business grew she moved classes to the “Shelburne Town Hall” and then to the beautiful “All Souls Interfaith Gathering” sanctuary where she taught until the end of 2012. In February, 2013 Katie Bohlin joined Heidi and together they opened the doors to Yoga Roots first location in the Shelburne Green Business Park. Around that time, Lynn Alpeter received a gift certificate for yoga with Heidi at All Souls Interfaith Gathering. She had just finished up chemotherapy and radiation treatment for breast cancer and had been hearing about Heidi’s yoga classes for years. From the very first class with Heidi, she knew yoga needed to be part of her healing. Fast forward with a workshop collaboration, marketing consulting and lots of yoga classes later, in 2016, Katie sold her share of the business to Lynn. At the helm, Yoga Roots has two Pisces with very supportive husbands sharing their dreams of building community through yoga and other healing arts for all ages, attitudes and abilities.

The past two years have been wonderfully busy. And, thanks to a very supportive community, excellent yoga teachers and an amazing business partnership, Yoga Roots has grown and a second studio opened in Williston on June 1, 2018.

The driving force behind the business is “Do Everything with Love” - notice the heart rests at the top of the Yoga Roots tree on their logo. Heidi and Lynn work hard to seek out like minded instructors who are motivated to share the practices of yoga and other healing modalities such as sound healing, to support, nurture and inspire the community.

In 2017 they expanded their curriculum to offer “Pilgrimage of the Heart” a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training and in addition to running this program again in 2018/19 they are scheduling advanced teacher trainings in restorative yoga and hands on assists. Yoga Roots believes in giving back and the YR community has raised over $6,000 for Audubon Vermont, Shelburne Community Food Shelf, Charlotte Land Trust and more.

Lynn and Heidi are immensely grateful for the support of their community and look forward to sharing the love of yoga for years to come!
